FACILITIES

  • Al Amri Labs is equipped with modern analytical instruments that are used in the determination of desired analytes in
  • the samples. At the mineralogical section, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers (AAS) are used to quantify the amounts
  • of certain metallic elements in ores and, to permit the determination of these elements with better sensitivities and detection limits,
  • accessories have been properly installed for use. These include the Electrothermal Spectroscopy which uses Graphite Furnace as the
  • burner and the Vapor Generation Assembly (VGA) for the determination of micro quantities of mercury. Another instrument in this section
  • is the X-ray Fluorescence Spectrophotometer (XRF) which is a powerful instrument for assaying the amounts of major oxides in the samples
  • though the examination of glass beads that are prepared using the fusion machine. Recently the laboratory has acquired the
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrophotometer(ICP-OES) machine which is a more sensitive and convenient instrument
  • for base metals analyses. Samples that are analyzed in this section are prepared at the workshop which is furnished with a drying oven, jaw crushers, sample splitters, pulverizers, sieves, sample homogenizer and analytical balances
The water and soil analysis section is equipped with the Selective Ion Analyzer, Conductimeter, pH meter, microscope, incubator, analytical balance and burettes. Very recently, a new instrument was acquired for this section and this is the latest model of the Multi-Channel Detector PDA UV/VIS Spectrophotometer which is used for ion analysis. This section shares with the mineralogical section with regards to the use of the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer for the quantification of metals in water samples.
